VeriStitch to Adopt PC-Based Machine Interface Model

If you’ve followed our history, you know that for years we were loath to put a PC on a production floor next to commercial embroidery and monogram machines. Our product successes bear out that the wisdom at the time was fitting. In those days, PCs were large, monitors were even larger, and hardware interface support was expensive and complicated. But today’s PC has come a long way, and this year VeriStitch will move away from its traditional hardware terminal and towards a PC-based machine interface model.

VeriStitch is currently implementing small footprint, LCD touchscreen-equipped PCs as the machine interface for its networks, with a single PC serving a machine pod (multiple machines per PC). This change in direction from the Delta Terminal provides the following advantages:

  • Reduces the per machine cost of purchasing the Delta Industrial Sewing Network.
  • Reduces hardware requirements per machine pod. A single PC and bar code scanner can serve a machine pod (multiple machines).
  • Leverages customer’s buying power. Customer purchases PC hardware directly from their own vendors.
  • Improves user experience. A 15- or 17-inch touchscreen LCD display provides ample display area for a full-color, content-rich interface for the machine operator.
  • Improves delivery of custom software. Because the interface is a PC application, customizing and multi-language environments are easier than ever before.
  • Improves maintainability. Local IT resources are familiar with PC deployment and support.

The PC has come a long way since we deployed our first wireless network back in the mid-1990s. The following technologies have transformed the PC into a platform that we think is ready for use on today’s production floors:

  • USB interface. A single USB port opens up a world of quick and easy hardware interfaces including serial ports, parallel ports, scanners, really anything we could possibly need to make a machine interface work.
  • LCD touchscreen displays. Affordable LCD displays are now available that are small and light, and a built-in touchscreen eliminates the need for a keyboard and mouse, which are clumsy in a production environment.
  • Hardware miniaturization. Powerful PCs are now available in small footprint cabinets that fit easily wherever they are needed.

We expect our first Delta PC software to be in operation sometime in Q2 of this year.
